The Story Behind the “Pond, Lilypads, Goldfish” Series

These small paintings were inspired by a visit to a friend’s serene Japanese garden and lily pond. With my camera in hand, I spent the afternoon capturing the reflections, the dappled light on the water, and the vibrant contrasts of green lilypads and orange goldfish.

Back in the studio, these photos became the source material for my 6” x 6” acrylic paintings—each one a small, joyful meditation on water, movement, and color. The series celebrates the quiet beauty and playfulness of a garden pond, transformed into bold, painterly impressions.
